SHAPE and SHAPELESS
TRANSCENDENCE OF HUMANITY & NATURE

「形而上者謂之道，形而下者謂之器」《周易》, ‘shapes’ contains both meanings of philosophical and physical. 「因緣所生法，我說即是空」《中觀論》, ‘shapeless’ goes beyond emptiness, but every existence follows ‘Yuan’. Proper translation of ‘shape and shapeless’, therefore, has long been debatable - may it be ‘metaphysical’, ‘abstract ideal’ or ‘empirical’ - as these words are neither comprehensive nor holistic.

THE STUDENT CATEGORY (Extension of Submission Deadline: by 15 May 2019)

The student design competition with the theme of ‘shape and shapeless’ challenges participants to interpret and redefine ‘shapes’ or ‘shapeless’ through an architectural intervention design proposal that transcends humanity and nature. The submissions are expected to reflect the spirit of physicality and philosophy aspects of ‘shapes’ or ‘shapeless’, and open a platform to discuss the direction of future development in the context of the Straits and the Belt and Road.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO BE COMPLETED BY PARTICIPANTS

Required Writing Submission (Design Statement): Definition of ‘shapes for the future of humanity and nature’ by the project (100 words max. for Chinese and English each), in both pdf and doc format
Required Drawings Submission to include:
a. Site location and area: Any site in the Straits and the Belt and Road
b. Development Programme and area: Any attempt that corresponds to the proposed theme
Submission format and time:
a. Stage 1: Online registration by 15 May 2019
b. Stage 2: Online submission of a design statement, an entry form and 2 A1 presentation panels (300dpi jpg) (no other submission media is allowed) to be uploaded on www.cadsa.com.hk by 15 May 2019. Participants are required to include their registration no. (Font style: Aerial, (Bold); Font size: 18; Font colour: black) at the lower right corner of both panels

A computer-generated 13-digit Registration Number will be sent to the registered email upon successful registration.

Demonstration of how architecture and urban design are meaningful cultural tools to transcend humanity and nature

ENTRY ELIGIBILITY

Any current full-time student studying in Architecture - related courses offered in the cross-strait regions (Hong Kong, Mainland, Taiwan and Macau).

INDIVIDUAL / TEAM SUBMISSION

Individual or team submission (each team has maximum four students; each student is allowed for one submission either in individual or team basis only).

One not-over-15Mb PDF file (A1 landscape，300 dpi) containing Two A2-sized (420mmW x 594mmH) graphic layouts in portrait to include:
1. 位置圖/地塊圖/街道圖/建築物平面圖 (參賽者自行決定比例)
  Location Plan/ Site Plan/ Block Plan/ Building Plans at appropriate scale
2. 最少一個剖面圖或和立面圖 (參賽者自行決定比例)
  Minimum one cross-section and or elevations at appropriate scale
3. 示意圖/概念圖以展示設計概念和特色
  Diagram/ Sketches highlighting the design ideas and features
4. 合成圖像、效果圖或和其他形式的圖像，以解說設計概念。
  Photomontages, Perspectives, and or other illustration that can illustrate the ideas and design concepts
5. 電腦分配的 13 位數登記編號（字體大小：16，黑色）必須標注在兩張圖像的右下角。
  The computer-generated 13-digit Registration Number (font size: 16, black) to appear at the lower right hand corner of the both design layouts
6. 不接受提交動畫作品
  Animation is not accepted
中文（不超過500字；標點符號計算在內）及英文（不超過400字）設計綱領（字體大小：12，.DOC格式，左/右頁邊空白: 3.17厘米; 上/下頁邊空白: 2.54厘米）以解釋整體方案。標題及電腦分配的 13 位數登記編號必須展示於頁面的頂部。 Design Statement in both Chinese (500 words maximum; punctuation included) and English (400 words maximum) (font size: 12) in .DOC format (left & right margin: 3.17cm; top & bottom margin: 2.54cm) to explain the overall proposal, with proposal title and the 13-digit computer-generated Registration Number to appear at the top of the page

匿名和保密性 Anonymity and Confidentiality of Entries
所有參賽作品必須標有保密的登記編號，參賽者將於網上平台註冊後獲分配 13 位號碼。此登記編號是唯一標示的號碼，其他識別標誌不能出現在平面規劃圖和設計說明上。參賽者應遵守他/她的保密義務和採取必要的步驟以確保直至比賽結果公佈為止，皆不會透露予第三方知道。否則，作品將被取消參賽資格。
All entries must be marked with a confidential Registration Number, which a set of 13-digit numbers will be assigned to the participant after online registration. No other identification marks shall appear on the graphic layouts and the Design Statement. The participant shall keep his/ her entry confidential and take necessary steps to ensure it is not disclosed to and third parties throughout the category until the public announcement of the results. Otherwise, the submission will be disqualified.

知識產權 Intellectual Property Rights
參賽作品之知識產權屬創作者所擁有，但其所提交的參賽作品，參賽者聲明、保證、同意並承諾所提交之作品（包括知識產權）將可用作2017年兩岸四地建築設計論壇及大獎活動宣傳之用。
Intellectual Property Rights belong to the offer(s), but upon submitting an entry to the category, the participant declares, warrants, agrees and undertakes that the submission (Intellectual Property Right inclusive) would be used for promotion of the CADSA 2017 event purpose.

評審指引 Assessment Guidelines
所有參賽作品將由2017年兩岸四地建築設計論壇及大獎籌委會指派的作品預選委員會進行篩選。入選作品將由評委根據委員會的評審準則（見下文）進行評選。該評委會的評選將會是最終決定，其結果對各參賽者及相關組織具有約束力，不能上訴。參賽者沒有權利要求查閱評委會的評審意見或記錄。
All entries will be screened by the Pre-selection Committee appointed by the CADSA 2017 Organizing Committee. The selected entries will be judged in accordance with the broad assessment guidelines (see below) by the Jurors. The decision of the Jury Panel shall be final and binding on all parties concerned and decisions cannot be appealed against. Participants do not have the right to request for access to the Jurors’ comments or records on the adjudication.

最終評審 Final Judging Session
學生組別最後六強將獲邀赴港進行最終評審報告及與公眾分享設計理念。最終評審詳情將稍後公佈。
The Top 6 of Student Category will be invited to come to Hong Kong to give a face-to-face presentation to the Jury Panel and public during the Final Judging Session. Details of the Final Judging Session will be announced in due course.

一個金獎，兩個銀獎，三個銅獎和十四個優異獎。
One Gold Award, two Silver Awards, three Bronze Awards and fourteen Honourable Mentions.

作品展覽和出版 Exhibition and Publication of Entries
主辦機構有權於任何日期或場地展示或展覽作品或作品的任何部分，並出版任何其他選定的作品和評委報告。
The organizer is entitled to display or exhibit on any date and in any venue the entries or any part thereof, and publish including the report of the category events together with any selected entries.

語言 Language
所有參賽作品須以中文（繁體或簡體）和英文提交。
All entries shall be in BOTH Chinese (Traditional or Simplified) and English.
